This work emerges from my current musical practice of rope skipping and Mark Mander’s concept of the “slack rope”. In Mark Mander’s words: “at any moment there are slack ropes hanging in many parts of the world, and I think it is an incredibly lovely, melancholy phenomenon. The curve of a slack rope as it hangs is just beautiful.”
The tape extrudes from a cassette case as the gut of an eviscerating animal, loosening up to capture material outside of its tight shape.
